A Family Affair

Amber McBain

Coast Capital Savings
Credit Union

"When I decided it was time to start saving, I trusted my credit union to steer me in the right direction. And they did."

Throughout her working life, Amber McBain has helped people to make their money work for them in positive ways, and she knows the value of a well-invested dollar. For many years she was an insurance broker for a Lower Mainland company that just happened to be a credit union subsidiary. Today she is the business development manager for a promising pharmaceutical startup. With all her business experience and savvy, one would naturally assume that she'd have the inside scoop on how to invest in her own future. But sometimes-call it human nature-we're adept at giving others good advice, but fall short when it comes to our own affairs.

"RRSP's, mutual funds, GIC's...I didn't really understand any of it. I talked to a financial advisor at my credit union, who made sense of the different ways I could bolster my savings, so I could make my own informed decisions."

At Coast Capital Savings, as in all BC credit unions, members like Amber are welcome regardless of where they happen to be on their financial journey; the way you'd treat a family member. For Amber, credit unions are, in a way, a family affair. Her parents opened a Coast Capital account for her eighteen years ago, when she was only thirteen. Her father worked for a credit union for twenty years, and her sister is a credit union employee. She was comfortable in the knowledge that she would be treated warmly and with respect.

"They took the time to take care of my concerns. They were friendly and professional."

Today her money is secure in a savings plan set up specifically for her requirements.

"I also like the fact that Coast Capital is proactive. They make a point of keeping you up-to-date about all their products and services."

Coming from someone with a background in marketing and sales, that just shows how your BC credit unions are taking care of business; your business.
