Theatre In The Raw Society Wins CCEC Credit Union CED Award!

CCEC Credit Union recently presented the Theatre In The Raw Society with the 11th Annual Roger Inman Memorial Award for Community Economic Development at their Annual General Meeting on January 20, 2004. CCEC Credit Union gives the award annually "in recognition of a group, individual or project that has made a significant contribution to the economic development of the community." Theatre In The Raw was also presented with a $1,000 cash award from the Roger Inman Trust.
Members of CCEC Credit Union since 1995, the Theatre In The Raw Society (TITR), a registered non-profit society, has been dedicated to artistic grassroots independent theatre work within the lower mainland and beyond. They are risk takers, creating and responding to the cultural needs of those in the Canadian community. They strive to provide an open, creative and supportive atmosphere for struggling artists—giving exposure to tried and untried playwrights. Theatre In The Raw is making a difference by putting forth affordable and accessible entertainment with a social message.
Past theatrical main stage productions presented by TITR have included Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekov; Beyond the Call by Ernest Hekkanen; Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett; The New World Order by Herschel Hardin; Top Girls by Caryl Churchhill; The Street by W. Ruth Kozak; and The Glace Bay Miners' Museum by Wendy Lill.
Since the beginning, TITR has showcased their One-Act Play Series Nights and main stage shows. Over 450 actors, performers and directors have worked their stages and over 60 technicians, stage managers, administrators and promotions people have logged time with them. In addition, over 70 writers have had their work produced and140 original one-act plays have been produced. They have also performed at over 27 different venues in the Lower Mainland, generating revenue for local neighbourhood businesses.
CCEC Credit Union, situated on Commercial Drive in Vancouver, has been serving the co-operative, community business and non-profit sector since 1976. They pool the savings and financial activities of individuals, co-operatives and other community groups.
